The star has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's independent music venues.

He was awarded the award on October 16 as his third album his work was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

These funds supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that money from shows in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

Back when they earned the award in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her bounty across a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she told outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had rescued several small stages in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

One venue in that area and the second in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the properties.
