PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
